1610 Hedden Court
New Albany, IN 47150
$0

Listing Description:
Built in 1953 for Arthur and Alma Fougerousse, this one-story home features a rectangular plan with several extensions. The central mass of the building has a low, hipped roof with wide eaves. A low-gabled link joins it to a contemporary, hipped-roof garage. The home is clad in aluminum siding.

The home is approximately 1200 square feet, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Per the auction company, other features include a gas fireplace, central air & gas heat, a breezeway with front and back entrances, and a large fenced back yard surrounded by several mature trees.

Lovely and peaceful Hedden Court, one of New Albany’s early suburban developments.  This residential area, originally known as Hedden’s Grove, was thick with beautiful oak trees and was the site for many recreational and political activities in New Albany. The Hedden family of New Albany owned the woods, which was located in the independent town of Silver Grove.  The portion of Hedden’s Grove that ultimately became Hedden Court contained a small pond with white lilies and numerous fish.  The area that became Hedden Park (the adjacent street) saw numerous political rallies during and after the Civil War, along with annual African-American emancipation celebrations.  The Park area was also home to bands of Gypsies who summered there, and in later years there was a small baseball diamond located in the Park area.  By the time Hedden’s Grove was subdivided by the Hedden Realty Company in the mid-1920s, the area had been annexed by the City of New Albany.  The neighborhood was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 because of its architectural and historic significance.
