This double residence replaced two earlier structures in 1946. The property was purchased by Edward Cheap from Reverend Joseph E. Ritter in August 1945. By the printing of the New Albany City Directory of 1947, Mrs. Cheap, the widow of George L., was residing in the 617 side of the dwelling.
  
The Ora Cheap Duplex is located in the locally-designated East Spring Street Historic District; therefore, any exterior alterations must be reviewed and approved by the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission.
