Sheriff Sale

Listing Description:

Built ca 1890. Queen Anne/Gabled-ell. The “Cap’n” Frank H. Jackson House. Frank H. Jackson was first listed in the 1886 New Albany City Directory living at 548 East Elm Street, one house west of present day 1909 East Elm Street. By the time the 1890 New Albany City Directory was published, Frank and his wife Sarah were residing here.  According to the New Albany Ledger of October 9, 1931, “Cap’n” Jackson was born in New Albany and educated in the city schools.  As a youth he learned the printing trade which he made his life’s work.  His first job as a printer was for the New Albany Ledger.  In 1872, he began a 51 year career at the Courier Journal and Louisville Times.

Until his retirement in 1923, he was the only foreman that the Times’ composing room ever had since its founding in 1884.  In addition to his interest in the printing business, he had two hobbies – his camera and his phonograph. Mr. Jackson died at the house in October of 1931, one month shy of his 80th birthday.  He was survived by one son, who followed him into the printers’ trade, and five daughters. Nancy, one of the daughters, also lived in the home.  She divided the house into two living units and remained there through the late 1940s.

The property’s judgment number is 22C01-1508-MF-001090. With this number you can visit the Clerk's Office in the City-County building and enter it into their computers to find the judgment owed on the property. This is public record.
