Built 1948. Gunnison Home. The Albert and Mary Duitz House. This prefabricated house was constructed in New Albany at the U.S. Steel Company facility on Charlestown Road and trucked to the site and assembled. Mr. Foster Gunnison, a pioneer in prefabricated housing, sold his New Albany company to U.S. Steel in 1947.

Albert A. and Mary Morgan Duitz purchased this home in 1948 and raised their son A. Morgan here. The house remained in the Duitz family for 35 years. Mr. Duitz was a general agent for the Seaboard Airline. He died on May 14, 1964 and Mary remained in the house through 1983. She died at Providence Retirement Home on July 6, 1988.

This upscale residential area of New Albany is in the process of being nominated for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
